What total solar cell area would you need to provide energy needs? Mastering Physics problem?
Solar cells convert the energy of incoming light to electric energy; a good quality cell operates at an efficiency of 15%. Each person in the United States uses energy (for lighting, heating, transportation, etc.) at an average rate of 11 kilowatts . Although sunlight varies with season and time of day, solar energy falls on the United States at an average intensity of 200 W/m^2.

Assuming you live in an average location, what total solar-cell area would you need to provide all of your energy needs with energy from the sun?

Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The (2008)

IMDB rating: 8.20

Plot: On the day that Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, elderly Daisy Williams nee Fuller is on her deathbed in a New Orleans hospital. At her side is her adult daughter, Caroline. Daisy asks Caroline to read to her aloud the diary of Daisy’s lifelong friend, Benjamin Button. Benjamin’s diary recounts his entire extraordinary life, the primary unusual aspect of which was his aging backwards, being born an old man who was diagnosed with several aged diseases at birth and thus given little chance of survival, but who does survive and gets younger with time. Abandoned by his biological father, Thomas Button, after Benjamin’s biological mother died in childbirth, Benjamin was raised by Queenie, a black woman and caregiver at a seniors home. Daisy’s grandmother was a resident at that home, which is where she first met Benjamin. Although separated through the years, Daisy and Benjamin remain in contact throughout their lives, reconnecting in their forties when in age they finally match up. Some of the revelations in Benjamin’s diary are difficult for Caroline to read, especially as it relates to the time past this reconnection between Benjamin and Daisy, when Daisy gets older and Benjamin grows younger into his childhood years.

Odd Usb cord question…need info?
i was out at my local flea market recently and came across this double ended Usb cord labled USB Net-Linq. ITs a blue cord with matching usb on each end with a module roughly in the center. Its made by FUJITECH, model nubmer, FC-UN11. I went to the Fujitech website but its absolutely no help for information, most other sites dont give much more than a picture and a few words for the description. As far as i can make out it is to connect a computer to a network.

Any additional info would be great, and if someone has a real world example of how this is used that would help me picture how i could put it to use here at the house.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

That is a usb to usb cable and not what you need to connect to a network!

That is for a pc to pc connection via the usb ports.

If you want to make a home network then see this page :-

http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homen etworking/Home_Networking_Setting_Up_a_H ome_Network.htm

Arnak
Arnak | Feb 06, 2010

A USB Net-link, acts like a USB network adapter at each end, connected together.

It is used in the same way as two network adapters and a "crossover cable", to make an ad-hoc network between two machines for transfer, gaming etc.

It is a USB 1.1 device, so will not be particularly fast, at best, equvalent to 10 Megabit cards instead of 100.

Not a bad find if it works though!

To use it, you would need the drivers installed on the machine at each end, and then you would need to set up something to USE the network.

If you have one PC connected to broadband, you could use the Net-Linq to share the connection to another machine.

What are the different traits noticable in con-artists?
Grifters, con-artists and swindlers seem to be hard to notice. Usually their character traits present a false front, such as representing themselves as someone they’re not … Maybe falsifying documents to represent themselves as a financial or insurance person, etc. They get to know you for you to feel comfortable with them. Maybe there are some discernable personality traits to help send up a ‘red flag.’

a con can spot a gullible person … but not the other way around
best advise, wise up and self educate
as long as you’ve got money in your pocket there is always someone out to get it.

Me Queen | Jan 04, 2010

here’s a huge red flag - if what they are telling you ( the scam ) is so good, why do they need you ? what are you giving them that they don’t have but want ?

and the other huge one - ask yourself " am i letting anything cloud my judgment ? "

another huge red flag is " a limited time offer" if they need an answer now - pass it up !

In watchmen they say: I leave the human cockroaches to discuss their heroine…

Can you say: I leave the human cockroaches discussing their heroine…

If it’s wrong, how can you say the first line in another way, but still keeping its meaning as in: "I don’t care what they do, I leave them to do it"

How do you stop a politician or minister ruining our country and then migrating to another?
What if they ran our country into the ground and bu**ered off with their ill gotten gains to Germany or France etc- what could we do about it? Shouldn’t there be an act made to declare them traitors?
Once politicians have bu**ered our country- they are free to take their purses to another country (which they might have had an interest in whilst being a politician).
Shouldn’t each one be made to sign an act to reside here for 10 yrs after they stop being politicians?
If I was the foriegn policy minister, I’m sure I could make myself a nest egg in france or similar and then when Britain is totally screwed and my available resources have dried up- I can then just bu**er off.
I think anyone in politics that has a hand in our countries failings should be declared a ‘TRAITOR’ when they move abroad- it’s like the cat burglar- he rapes an area and then moves on.
Take a look at this drunken poem I wrote which gives most of my feelings quite accurately- especially the last few lines and then give me your own sentiments and why you think a law of residence would or would not work (I have no affiliation whatso ever with radicals or BNP etc):

Strange world we live in.

My mind remembers and screams for what we once had.
Progression to what? From the good to the bad?
Sanctuary from the city and urban chaos I had as a lad.
Now no countryside left, slowly being driven mad.

Right of way closed forever by the greedy rich
No where to wander there

Fish Suddenly Dying — Help?!?
My 30 gallon aquarium has been up and running for 9+ months and it has been more than 6 months since I last had a problem in this tank (there was an ich outbreak early on, shortly after adding a new fish.) Tank inhabitants are as follows:
5 brilliant rasboras
3 zebra dianios
3 platys (1 m, 2 f)
3 cardinal tetras
1 java fern (and lots of plastic plants) — the fern has only been in the tank about 3 weeks; it’s my first attempt at live plants

These fish have been thriving, with the exception of the ich outbreak, for 9 months. I stocked the tank slowly, perform weekly water changes, change the filter media every 3 weeks, and monitor the water quality. I did my weekly 25% water change on Monday evening, adding AquaSafe and Alage Fix as usual. I didn’t notice anything unusual about the fish behavior at that time, nor had I in the days before.

On Tuesday afternoon, I found a rasbora swimming upside down. By Tuesday evening (24 hours after H20 change), 2 rasboras and a zebra danio had died. I checked the water quality, and everything looked OK — ammonia and nitrite are reading at 0, and nitrate is at about 20 ppm (not perfect, but it shouldn’t be lethal, and yes these are the chemical kits, not the test strips.). I did another 25% water change and later noticed that more of the rasboras were swimming erratically — almost as if they were drunk. By Wednesday evening (so, 48 hours after the first H20 change, 24 hours after 2nd H20 change) I had lost 4 rasboras and all 3 zebra danois. This morning (Thursday), one of the platys was dead. This afternoon, another died.

I have noticed that the dead bodies appear a bit bloated, and there are dark spots on the bellies — internal bleeding, maybe? My platys also clamped their fins, something the others did not do. One platy also looked very skinny — I feel like this appearance came on very rapidly, but maybe I’ve just missed it somehow?

Only the cardinal tetras seem 100% oblivious to whatever is going on in the tank; they are still swimming around and eating like normal. The remaining platy still looks perfectly healthy as well, but the last rasbora looks like he might be getting sick — I can’t tell for sure.

Any ideas? I’m stumped. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps there was a problem with the city water. I haven’t done my regular water changes on my other 3 tanks because I’m afraid that’s the problem. It just seems so sudden… I have accepted the fact that I will probably lose all the fish. What I want to know is, what went wrong? What should I have done differently? And how can I avoid repeating this problem once I re-stock the tank?

If this is not a water supply problem, what would cause it? Like I said, I am very good about water changes, monitoring water quality, adding water conditioner, and changing filter media, so…?

They probably died of stress from the water change. When fish have gotten used to a medication for a long time, removing the medication presents a significant change in water conditions that can cause the fish to stress out and die, you have to gradually reduce the medication until you stop adding altogether. This kind of thing also happens to quarantined fish you think are fully cured and add back to the main tank.

Does a scooter need mirrors for a mot ?
Police stopped my 16 year old son and told him he needs mirrors on his ped and gave him a ticket to get them put on therfe !!!

Yes, it should have at least one mirror for an MOT, and when being driven on the road.

It might actually require two these days - I’m not sure on the law there. That might depend on the age of the bike.
If it only has one, it should be on the right hand side (from the rider’s perspective).

In any case, I strongly recommend fitting two - and it’s very dangerous having none at all!

why do you need these? there’s way to many, i doubt to many people are going to answer.
if you’ve seen the movies, they’ll be pretty easy to figure out…

Shelby Shazam | Jun 19, 2009

Wow. That list is REALLY long. Like the first answerer said, why do you need these?
In Finding Nemo, Marlin (Nemo’s dad) goes through a lot of anxiety while looking for his son.
Alice from Alice in Wonderland (I really wanted to check if you had that one; I love that movie) seems to have a little anxiety, since she’s having trouble following the skewed logic of Wonderland citizens.
As for other characters from movies near the top of the list, they seem to feel a little depressed and incomplete, like Mulan (felt that she was a disgrace to her family), Tigger (in The Tigger Movie, he didn’t have a family and felt really sad), Beast (in Beauty and the Beast, he’s scared that nobody will like him because he’s pretty darn ugly), etc. You can just watch some of these movies again (it’s fun, trust me) or at least think about the ones you remember fairly well.
