Explain to me what dating is, please. I'm utterly confused.?
Okay. So. I’ve always thought dating was getting to know the person, and seeing if you’d like to make something more out of it, a relationship. BUT, a friend of mine posted a blog a while ago, explaining himself for the idiotic things he does in relationships, in attempt to be happy. He mentioned something about thinking dating with an intention to end eventually was stupid and pointless. Is dating an intention to end eventually? Or was I right the first time? Or are both of them wrong? Ugh. I’m confused. I, myself, didn’t know I was dating a man I have liked for quite sometime now. But, I was having a phone conversation with him Saturday night, and the subject of him not hooking up with girls anymore, and why, came up. It turns out he would feel guilty, because we were dating. What the fuck. My mind was spinning. We had only hung out twice, once at Down Town Disney, with friends, but we had alone time, and once at my house. He had told me those two were dates. Of course, I was happy and elated to know I was dating somebody I truly had feelings for. But, unfortunately, I was rolling that night, so I was kind of just taking it all in. We hung out the day after that too, and he told me that was date number three. So. Is this whole dating thing going to end with no intention of a relationship? Just to have fun for a while? Or is it leading to a relationship. Sorry for rambling. But, I would appreciate the advice and education <3

Dating is when u go somewhere out.

Is America's intellectual deficit explained by a lack of exposure to men like Trudeau Watts and Douglas?
3 intellectuals — Americans have heard of Paris Hilton of course but not great men like those mentioned above

Does that explain the US deficit

Please read and tell me what you think?
I’ve posted this prologue on here a few times now, this is like the tenth draft. Please read, rate and critique :) This part and another couple of chapters are third person, but most of the book is first person. It doesn’t make entire sense but all is explained in the following chapters. Thanks in advance.

Silent tears slipped down Sofia’s cheeks as she trudged through the forest, branches snapping under her feet. The pale moonlight illuminated her ashen face and the straggly russet tresses that tumbled over her shoulders. She was trembling; unable to feel the light weight in her arms. For miles, she had been walking through fields and the eerily silent forest where not even the owls hooted. Her legs ached to the point where she just wanted to collapse. That was when she caught sight of the thick cluster of spiky bushes that Chris had told her to head for. In front was a small cluster of yellow flowers that contrasted with the rest of the drab forest.

She fell to her knees, laid her bundle to one side and dug desperately through the soft, crumbling dirt with her bare hands. Her fingers numbed by the cold air and pain of sticks and stones cutting her skin and collecting under her nails. Her arms were covered in hundreds of tiny scratches from the thistles and thorns, but she would just have to withstand the irritation. It was nowhere near as bad as the emotional torture she was suffering from. The hole she had dug was just big enough amidst the brambles. She took a huge breath, as if it were her first, as she wiped a muddy hand across her cheek. Her tears left tracks in the dirt on her face. She laid down what she had been carrying, placing it carefully in the hole and covering it up and mumbling some words. She rose to her feet, wobbling slightly as she did so. As exhausted as she was, she ran out of the murky forest, the crisp night air biting at her cheeks. She had to get away from that place.

As she ran, she was overcome by a strange sense of relief. She had to cry as it helped her release her emotions, but somewhere inside, she believed she had done the right thing. Anyone could tell her she hadn’t, but she didn’t really have any other choice. She had argued with herself about it so much that something that at first seemed so wrong, now seemed to be the best thing to have done. Chris made her do it; he didn’t want to be caught but didn’t seem to care if Sofia did. Occasionally she wondered if he cared about anything she did, but he had picked her up off the ground when she most needed it and she couldn’t help but love him for that.
I’m thirteen and I’ve only been fully interested in writing since Easter 2009. Please guide me in places where I am going wrong.

It’s exciting so far! A few helping hints: ‘placing it carefully in the hole and covering it up and mumbling some words’ I wouldn’t repeat ‘and’ if I was you, you could replace the first and with a comma? It sounds a little clumsy.

Also, ’she had to cry as it helped her release her emotions’, I would alter this slightly. Maybe turn it into two short sentences: ’she had to cry. It helped her release her emotions’ or ’she released her emotions with a cry’. Your version sounds a little off somehow?

‘She took a huge breath’ I’d perhaps change huge.
and finally: ’she ran out of the murky forest’, I think another adjective could be used here to bring the register up a little bit?

Only suggestions! This seems really exciting, I WOULD READ IT! :D

Can kids cross the border without birth certificates?
My sister is planning a visit with her 3 kids, they have already been traveling for a few days so can not go back for birth certificates. Can she cross the border from Canada to US with the kids care cards?

First answerer missed the point…she seems to think your sister is a U.S. citizen, not a Canadian. Nope. Children must have that birth certificate and if the mother is bringing the children alone, she must have permission from the father. He must provide a signed , notarized letter giving permission for her to take the children out of the country, for each child. See 4th paragraph in first article below. Second article also states this is necessary when crossing Canadian- U.S. border. Now, I have rried to find a Canadian government soiurce for this info and cannot, these articles are written from the viewpoint of going from the U.S. to Canada, not the other way around. However, they do state that the Canadian gov’t acknowledges these U.S. requirements and agrees and cooperates with them. If your sister did somehow manage to LEAVE Canada without the birth certificates and letters, she would probably have a terrible time re-entering Canada without them.

In Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, how long had the real Mrs. Elster been dead when she was thrown from the tower?
Also, who killed her and how? Surely the autopsy of her body would have proved she didn’t die from the fall, right? Also, John knew somehow that it was Madelaine screaming when the body fell and she didn’t disagree. I feel like I’ve missed something.

I just saw this movie on tv the other day. The husband killed his wife. When Madeline ran to the top of the tower he was already up there with his dead wife. He threw her off and Madeline screamed. He knew that John wouldn’t be able to go up to the top of the tower due to his fear of heights. They never say how long she had been dead or exactly how she was killed. The movie was made in the 50’s and I don’t think they did autopsies back then. John didn’t figure out what actually happened until the very end of the movie when they went back to the tower. Then the nun came up to ring the bell and Madeline was frightened and stepped back and actually fell off herself. I recommend watching it again. It’s one of those movies you may have to watch again for everything to make sense.

What film is the best at depicting the holocaust?
I just watched The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and have seen Schindler’s List. I’ve heard that there are grave inaccuracies in both films. There must be one out there that depicts it accurately.

there was a mini series in the 80’s called the holocaust.
it stared james woods, merel streep, and so many others i can’t remember.

what made it so good is it showed an average german family and an affluent jewish family.
and how the war effected both of them.

very good acting, quite accurate, although not a true story. they have it on netflix i urge you to watch
it, totally not a waste of time.
david b | Feb 05, 2010

It’s unlikely that any movie really depicts it that accurately, generally movies (even sombre ones) are made for entertainment and as such producers are prone to adding things to make them more "interesting," I’d suggest finding some documentaries instead. If you really want to know about the holocaust I’d recommend all the books of Primo Levi, especially "The Drowned & The Saved"
Steve H | Feb 05, 2010

I have no idea where you heard Schindler’s List is inaccuratee. It’s not in fact it’s the closest you will get while watching a movie made for entertainment purposes. It won the academy award (which at the time was an award for good movies unlike now "Avatar"). If you want facts watch a documentary.

"Holocaust" (1978) (TV mini-series)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090015/ "shoah" by Claude Lanzmann
this movie show survivers
Claude Lanzmann directed this 9 1/2 hour documentary of the Holocaust without using a single frame of archive footage. He interviews survivors, witnesses, and ex-Nazis (whom he had to film secretly since though only agreed to be interviewed by audio). His style of interviewing by asking for the most minute details is effective at adding up these details to give a horrifying portrait of the events of Nazi genocide. He also shows, or rather lets some of his subjects themselves show, that the anti-Semitism that caused 6 million Jews to die in the Holocaust is still alive in well in many people that still live in Germany, Poland, and elsewhere

Timecop
Timecop (1994)

IMDB rating: 5.40

Plot: In Washington DC in 1994, the Senate Oversight Committee (SOC) is being spoken to in the capitol building by George Spota, who explains that for the past 20 years, Doctor Hans Kleindast, the Nobel laureate who help the government with the space program back in the 1960s and 1970s, has been doing research, and his field of research has been time travel. The SOC believes that Hans is a quack — until George tells the SOC that Hans actually succeeded in his research and took a trip to the past then back to the present. You can’t travel into the future because the future hasn’t happened yet. George makes it clear that a covert agency is needed to police time travel, so the Time Enforcement Commission (TEC) is formed. Named as the director of the TEC is Commander Eugene Matuzak, formerly of the Washington DC police department. Senator Aaron McComb, who sees possibilities, agrees to chair the oversight on the new program. Sometime later, at a shopping center, TEC agent Max Walker and his wife Melissa are being watched by a pair of shady looking men. Later, at home. Max and Melissa spend some passionate time together. That night, Melissa is about to tell Max something extremely important when the phone rings. Max answers the phone and is told to go to TEC headquarters. Max gets dressed and as soon as Max opens the front door to go outside, he is attacked by the two men from the shopping center. As the two men are beating Max up. Max sees Aaron looking out the window of the bedroom that Melissa is still in, and Aaron is holding Melissa hostage, forcing Melissa to watch Max’s beating. The two men outside then shoot Max, who is wearing a bulletproof vest — and then an explosion engulfs the house, killing Melissa. On October 30, 1929, on Wall Street in New York City, a man named Lyle Atwood enters an office building and rides an elevator up to an office. There is a sudden ripple in the office, and Max enters from the future. It turns out that Lyle is Max’s partner, and Lyle is planning to stop the depression from happening. Max wants to know who Lyle is working for, and Lyie calls two security men into the office to deal with Max. Max beats up the two security men, and Lyle pulls out a gun and opens fire on Max. When Lyle runs out of bullets, Max forces Lyle to admit that he’s working for Aaron, and that Aaron has paid off a lot of other TEC agents as well. Lyle then jumps out the window. Max jumps out after Lyle, grabs him, and takes Lyle with him back to present time, which is now the year 2004, ten years after Melissa’s murder. TEC judge Marshall sentences Lyle to be immediately executed, so Lyle is sent back to 1929 and is dropped to his death from the point in midair where Max and Lyle disappeared to 2004. At TEC Headquarters in 2004, Aaron, Max, and Matuzak are showing Senator Malcolm Nelson around the TEC building. Aaron reminds everyone that people who go back in time risk coming into contact with a past version of themselves. The same matter cannot occupy the same space at the same time, because if that happens, and if it’s a person accidentally making physical contact with their past version, that person will die, and their body will disappear from the face of the Earth. Later, Max tells Matuzak that Aaron wants to shut down the TEC so no one can stop him from altering the past to his advantage, because Aaron is now running for President of the United States. Aaron’s fading campaign for president is dealt a blow when he is denied federal campaign matching funds. Just before Max wakes up, two men break into his home to kill him, but Max turns the tables and kills the two men who broke in. TEC internal affairs investigator Sarah Fielding questions Max. Max soon learns that Sarah may be on the wrong side in this. Max must travel back and forth in time to bring Aaron down…and when Max goes back to 1994 and finds out what Melissa wanted to tell him 10 years ago, it gives Max incentive to at least try to prevent Melissa’s murder.

Chocolat (2000)

IMDB rating: 7.30

Plot: 1960, small town France. Vianne Rocher and her pre-teen daughter move into town and open a chocolate shop just as lent is beginning. The town’s small-minded mayor can’t accept this and does his best to shut her down, but her warm personality and incredible chocolates manage to win over many townsfolk. Things get shaken up even more when a group of river drifters, led by Roux, stop into town (to the even greater distress of the mayor) and Vianne takes up with him. Meanwhile, she’s been helping Josephine out of her abusive marriage and her equally freethinking landlord, Amande Voisin, get together with her grandson, Luc, whose mother doesn’t approve of Amande’s ways.
