 Pollyanna (2003)

Plot: Pollyanna is a young orphan with a positive, cheerful personality who comes to live with her wealthy, embittered, spinster aunt. She introduces everyone to her preacher father’s favorite “Glad Game” and ends up transforming not only her aunt’s life but the entire town. When the selfless, caring Pollyanna is severely injured in an accident, her spirits dip uncharacteristically, and the townsfolk rally around to help her regain her perspective, to rejoice in God and look for the good.

She was light and joy
but not some pollyanna
a nice counterpoint
to my scathing silliness
I am hurt that she scorns me
and I don’t care who sees me cry.
It won’t affect my paycheck
It won’t make the rains fall harder
It doesn’t mean I am a bad person
It just means humanity
is a little more human tonight.
God is good; mothers are just who they are.

Mothers are just who they are. Goodness? Yes. I loved mine, but sometimes it was… complicated.
Actually, there was an old fellow

for two years
he’d invite me to lunch
share a plate of rice

I don’t know much about how poetry is "suppose" to be, or how to write it according to all the "poetry rules", but when I read a poem that moves me, I like to stop by and say, thanks for sharing…this is one of those poems.
