Can you recommend some good mind-bending books/authors?
I am having a hard time finding books that are in my interests. I love mind-bending,cerebral, dark movies such as : A Scanner Darkly, Memento, Eyes Wide Shut, Following, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, Spun, Trainspotting, etc. So if you could recommend any books/authors with similar themes to these that would be great. And I do read a lot of novels, I just want to find something new. Thanks
I wasn’t asking for your opinion on the movies, nor was I asking for your definition of cerebral….jeeze the amount of uneducated people on this website.
Try anything by Haruki Murakami, especially "The Wind Up Bird Chronicles" and "Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World"
Anything by Kurt Vonneghut
"Marabou Stork Nightmares" by Irvine Welsh
"Naked Lunch" by William Burroughs
"Post Office" by Charles Bukowski
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S Thompson
"The Electric Kool Aide Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe
"The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury
"The Doors of Perception" by Aldous Huxley
"On the Road" by Jack Keruac
"One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" by Ken Kesey
"Fury" or "Satanic Verses" by Salmon Rushdie
"Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas" or "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates" by Tom Robbins
If you want REALLY avant garde, try anything by Carlton Mellick III such as "Haunted Vagina" and "Razor Wire Pubic Hair"

Those movies are far from cerebral.
I’ve only seen three and they all sucked.
EDIT:
Take a look in the mirror!
I was merely being a smartass.

Read more Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club)- not everything is as "mind-bending" but he takes you to the edge of what’s acceptable in all kinds of ways and invites you to look at the other side. Also try Clive Barker- he’s a little sci-fi in a mind twisting way.
