Timecop
Timecop (1994)

IMDB rating: 5.40

Plot: In Washington DC in 1994, the Senate Oversight Committee (SOC) is being spoken to in the capitol building by George Spota, who explains that for the past 20 years, Doctor Hans Kleindast, the Nobel laureate who help the government with the space program back in the 1960s and 1970s, has been doing research, and his field of research has been time travel. The SOC believes that Hans is a quack — until George tells the SOC that Hans actually succeeded in his research and took a trip to the past then back to the present. You can’t travel into the future because the future hasn’t happened yet. George makes it clear that a covert agency is needed to police time travel, so the Time Enforcement Commission (TEC) is formed. Named as the director of the TEC is Commander Eugene Matuzak, formerly of the Washington DC police department. Senator Aaron McComb, who sees possibilities, agrees to chair the oversight on the new program. Sometime later, at a shopping center, TEC agent Max Walker and his wife Melissa are being watched by a pair of shady looking men. Later, at home. Max and Melissa spend some passionate time together. That night, Melissa is about to tell Max something extremely important when the phone rings. Max answers the phone and is told to go to TEC headquarters. Max gets dressed and as soon as Max opens the front door to go outside, he is attacked by the two men from the shopping center. As the two men are beating Max up. Max sees Aaron looking out the window of the bedroom that Melissa is still in, and Aaron is holding Melissa hostage, forcing Melissa to watch Max’s beating. The two men outside then shoot Max, who is wearing a bulletproof vest — and then an explosion engulfs the house, killing Melissa. On October 30, 1929, on Wall Street in New York City, a man named Lyle Atwood enters an office building and rides an elevator up to an office. There is a sudden ripple in the office, and Max enters from the future. It turns out that Lyle is Max’s partner, and Lyle is planning to stop the depression from happening. Max wants to know who Lyle is working for, and Lyie calls two security men into the office to deal with Max. Max beats up the two security men, and Lyle pulls out a gun and opens fire on Max. When Lyle runs out of bullets, Max forces Lyle to admit that he’s working for Aaron, and that Aaron has paid off a lot of other TEC agents as well. Lyle then jumps out the window. Max jumps out after Lyle, grabs him, and takes Lyle with him back to present time, which is now the year 2004, ten years after Melissa’s murder. TEC judge Marshall sentences Lyle to be immediately executed, so Lyle is sent back to 1929 and is dropped to his death from the point in midair where Max and Lyle disappeared to 2004. At TEC Headquarters in 2004, Aaron, Max, and Matuzak are showing Senator Malcolm Nelson around the TEC building. Aaron reminds everyone that people who go back in time risk coming into contact with a past version of themselves. The same matter cannot occupy the same space at the same time, because if that happens, and if it’s a person accidentally making physical contact with their past version, that person will die, and their body will disappear from the face of the Earth. Later, Max tells Matuzak that Aaron wants to shut down the TEC so no one can stop him from altering the past to his advantage, because Aaron is now running for President of the United States. Aaron’s fading campaign for president is dealt a blow when he is denied federal campaign matching funds. Just before Max wakes up, two men break into his home to kill him, but Max turns the tables and kills the two men who broke in. TEC internal affairs investigator Sarah Fielding questions Max. Max soon learns that Sarah may be on the wrong side in this. Max must travel back and forth in time to bring Aaron down…and when Max goes back to 1994 and finds out what Melissa wanted to tell him 10 years ago, it gives Max incentive to at least try to prevent Melissa’s murder.

I thought that the "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was supposed to be a really boring movie. I got a lot of bad reviews of it. I so wanna see Slumdog Millionaire! Coraline was good, but they added a character and it was a bit different from the book. My mom thought it was better than the book, actually. Wall-E was adorable! Iron Man I saw for my birthday and it wasn’t so bad.

Best:
1. Wall-E
3. Coraline
4. Pink Panther 2

6. Cloverfield

3 The Strangers
4 The House Bunny
5 Prom Night
6 Kung Fu Panda
7 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
8 Stop-Loss
9 Changeling
10 I can’t think of a tenth one so i’ll just say the one movie i have to see: MILK!

Worst:
1 The Women
2 Hannah Montana Concert Movie (Shot Me)
3 Burn After Reading
4 Swing Vote
5 Paul Blart: Mall Cop
6 The Unborn

9 High School Musical 3
10 I can’t think of a tenth one so i’ll say the movie i refuse to see: Jonas Brothers Concert Movie

I think your lists are mostly good except for two things

In your best list, Tropic Thunder was probably the worst comedy movie ever. And in your worst list, Four Christmases was a great movie with some bad actors. :) HeathLedger | Mar 15, 2009

Twilight and Hancock should be on the worst.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope….archetypes!?
I’m sorry but I’m not a Star War’s fan. In fact, I haven’t seen any of the movies because I actually wanted to. During english, I was pretty much falling asleep so from my understanding, Princess Leia is a damsel in distress. I heard my teacher say that she wasn’t actually that archetype. What is she then??? She was helpless and was begging for help in that robot looking thing where she sent signals and that Luke dude saved her so didn’t that make her a damsel in distress? What other type of archetype is she?

She really isn’t a damsel in distress. The part that you are referring to she was simply asking for help, she wasn’t helpless at all. Throughout the movies she is actually quite proactive and is an essential part to the Rebellion. She is a good fighter and a good leader. She would be a model leader or strong female heroin which is probably what you teacher was talking about.

It is true that she was begging for help in the hologram message stored in R2D2 memory. But if you see the whole movie you will notice that in several scenes it is she who saves Han, Luke, and Chewie.

Why does Spock serve under Captain Kirk in Star Trek VI?
In "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," Spock serves aboad the Starship Enterprise at the post of science officer, despite his promotion to captain mentioned in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." My question is simply this: Why is it that Spock serves under Kirk as a subordinate officer, when in reality they should have had equal say and Spock should have had his own ship?

Logically speaking, he serves the federation best as Science Officer

stephen k | Oct 09, 2008

Because there’s only room for one captain on the Enterprise — and that’s James Tiberius Kirk! (followed by Jean-Luc, of course!)
MamaBear | Oct 09, 2008

Because Captain Kirk served as a Captain longer than Captain Spock did.
Peeachee | Oct 09, 2008

Because he is Kirk’s be-yotch.
Jeff | Oct 09, 2008

Spock understand Kirk is a strong tactical commander than he is. Riker is just a big a captain as Picard, but he takes the action of a subordiante officer as well in ST Insurrection
audioworld | Oct 09, 2008

kirk served longer and the respect was well deserved and as logics is kirk was better as a tactical comander spock was better as a science officer its all respect as there is no money so respect
pj | Oct 09, 2008

Even as far back as the Classic episode "The Deadly Years", Spock professed a lack of desire for command. In Star Trek II, Captain Spock even says to Admiral Kirk:

"As a teacher on a training mission, I am content to command a Starship. If we are to go on actual duty, it is clear that the senior officer aboard must assume command."

Kirk is still a more senior captain than Spock is.

Could you read this over for me?
This is a short story for my English II class. Could you critique it for me? Thanks.

Her hair was raven black, and her skin pale. It shone in the moonlight on the cold, snowy evening. The sad, lonely girl followed the sad, lonely boy through the busy city streets, filled with hookers and drug dealers trying to make a quick buck. She was led down narrow alleyways, and through dirty empty buildings. Finally, they arrived at a house. The boy was followed inside the house, and up the stairs. He stopped in a large, empty room. From his messenger bag, he pulled out a sleek, black gun. He wept quitely as he put the gun to his chest. For the first time, he glanced at the girl that had followed him all this way. His body shook, and he flashed her a small, sad grin, before pulling the trigger. To her, his eyes had said, save me.

Vienna awoke in a cold sweat in her Manhattan apartment. A glance at her alarm clock told her that it was 3:24 in the morning. She hated having that dream. It seemed so realistic, and vaguely familiar. There was no way that she was going back to sleep tonight, everytime she closed her eyes, she saw the boy with his gun to his chest. She grabbed her journal, and being careful not to wake her parents, tip-toed into the kitchen. She put a pot of coffee on, and began to record what had happened in her nightmare. Things had changed since the last time she’d had the dream. This time, she could tell that the boy had pulled a gun from his bag. It was usually just an unrecognizable shadow.
She sat, sipping her coffee and contemplating the meaning of the dream until 5 am, when she decided it was about time to start getting ready for the day. After showering, she pulled her long, black hair into a ponytail, and applied some red lipstick. She always felt that the red lipstick against her pale skin gave her a really dramatic, edgy look. Around 7, Vienna left the huge apartment, and began to wander the snow-covered New York streets. She was supposed to be on her way to her expensive, private school, but it just didn’t feel like a good day to go. So instead, she got on the subway, and made her way towards Williamsburg, which happened to be her favorite place in the city, due to the indie vibe she got when there.
Vienna was sitting in Starbucks on her laptop, when she noticed that there was a guy following her. He was tall, with a slim figure and platinum blonde hair that fell right about to about his eyebrows. He wore a plain white t-shirt, that hung loosely over his childlike figure, and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. He was cute, and definetly Vienna’s type, but why the hell was he following her? She decided it was in her best interest to ignore it, and if he wanted to talk to her, he would eventually.
After he followed her to an alternative art gallery and a movie theatre, without saying a word to her, she decide that enough was enough. By this time, it was roughly six o’ clock pm, and she had to get home soon. She made an abrupt turn, and walked over to the street sign he was standing under to confront him. She began, "Hi, do you mind telling me what the he-" But she didn’t get to finish, because he already took off running. She followed him, because in her mind, no one cuts off Vienna Hayze. He led her through the city, his messenger bag flying behind him. He began to slow when they reached an awful-looking neighborhood. He turned into a seemingly vacant house, and then it hit her. This was exactly like her reoccuring nightmare. She was the sad, lonely girl and he was the sad, lonely boy. He had led her through the city, and to a house. And in that messenger bag, there had to be a gun.
She charged into the house, took a right, and climbed up the stairs that were in the exact same location as they were in her dream. In the middle of the floor, in an empty room, there knelt the boy. The messenger bag was already thrown on the floor, and the gun already to his chest. Vienna knew what would happen next if she didn’t act fast. Racing to the middle of the room, she tore the gun out of his hands, and threw it towards the upper right corner of the room. He looked up at her, with the same sad eyes that she had been seeing once a week for the past four months. She knelt next to him, put her arms around him, and held tight, refusing to let go.

Woah. Amazing!!!!!! I swear that just blew my mind away, a slight addictation in my mind is already starting to this piece of work. Great Job!

Did you like Donnie Darko?
I was thinking about watching Donnie Darko tonight but wanted to get some peoples feed back first. Did you like it? Did you hate it? What other movies is it kind of like?
Thanks!!

I LOVED IT.
it’s actually my favorite movie. it’s one that kind of takes two watches to fully understand or appreciate, and don’t watch it with people that are going to interrupt or talk during it.
i don’t know any other movies like it, it’s kind of a mixture between drama, science fiction, and a little bit of comedy
i would say you would like it if you’re kind of analytically inclined or are a frequent ponderer of life’s mysteries

Until the End of the World
Until the End of the World (1991)

IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: Sometimes-muddled road movie-turns-sci fi. Hurt plays a man who is traveling the world taking pictures with a special camera that will enable the blind to see (specifically, his blind mother). He meets up with Dommartin on the way, and they predictably hit it off. Set in 1999, a subplot about a nuclear satellite that has fallen to earth and presumably destroyed civilization only adds to the confusion.

How to let the ex know to leave you ALONE!?
i was with this worthless lying 2 face for 3 years and he had a side child within those 3 years and didn’t tell me until i found out through his sister. I found this out in sept and of course everything naturally ended I though i was done with him until recently after the new years he won’t leave me alone i stopped taking his phone calls, so he would txt I blocked his number he txted from another number I changed my number so he had no way of contacting me, so he now left a "love" letter on my windshield

he keeps telling my how sorry he is and blah blah etc…I told him already that i do not want his apologies and to leave me the F ALONE…what part doesn’t he get ????

how long is it going to take for him to eventually give up? (that little worthless piece of syht)

we were together for 3 years and his kid is 4 months….why in the world would i ever consider still being with him! and WHY is he still chasing after me, what’s the point if i keep rejecting him over and over again!

DOES HE REALLY THINK i WILL EVER TAKE HIM BACK? WHY IS HE GOING THROUGH ALL THIS NONSENSE

I already know that most people will say go to the police or get a restraint order but i feel like that will simply cause DRAMA and in a weird physiological way give him what he wants (my attention)

tell that retard that im gonna get a restraining order against u if u dont lave me alone and if he doesnt then get one! bbiigg ttiimme
brainless peep | Feb 05, 2010

i know u dont want to go to the police. i didnt want to go to the police for two years with my abusive boyfriend who i tried to get to leave me alone for a looong time. last night i finally called the cops because i found my entire car keyed (including a keyed "F*ck YOU). fml. anyways, the cop told me bc i never reported any past abuse it didnt matter. lesson here is just report it to the police. dont call 9111, just call the police dept n say i would like to report harassment/stalking. the cop told me if i answered calls or if i contacted him, it would nullify anything…so dont respond to anything. call the police just to report it. this way, if he bothers u again or in a worse way, u have it on record so the cops can do something. they can get him for stalking, but u must report it now. they will go talk to him and tell him if he continues to bother u, he will get into trouble.

f these men. bah. good luck im sry about that piece of sh*t man

I think your not over him yet. Even though your mad as hell at him. It’s so easy to just rip up his notes and move on. Tell the truth you like the attention he’s showing you.

With a stolen police cruiser (the red one), the destructive being races towards a little and already doomed planet: Earth. Stranded on Hawaii, experiment #626 can’t actually do much harm: water all around, no big cities and two well-equipped representatives of the Galactic Federation already following close behind to catch him again. But Dr. Jookiba and the Earth expert Pleakley never could have guessed that earth girl Lilo adopts the experiment as dog, gives him the name Stitch and actually causes an emotional development in the little beast. Her dysfunctional family, consisting only of Lilo and her sister Nani, is about to be ripped apart by social worker Cobra Bubbles. Stitch as the new family member brings quite some action into all their lifes, and after a while, not even Pleakley and Dr. Jookiba can recognize their former target. But how shall they bring the news of failure to the Grand Councilwoman without being punished?
